So this is one of the best Audio Blogs that I have come across in a long time! Hosta is really doing a service to the whole Bass community world wide. And he is achieving this by doing nothing more than sharing his love for music with the rest of us. It is sites and people like this that have inspired me. And so I pass this on in the hopes that it may inspire you too. I contacted Hosta to find out what he, and his work was all about.

What is your name?:

Ben Hossle also known as Hosta.

Where are you from?:

Originally from Manchester UK, I am now based in Newcastle UK at university.

What inspired you to start your blog?:

I just thought that at the time there were a lot of blogs about that were all posting the same music, I already had a load of tunes that people didn't know about, I thought that I could make my own site to promote unknown artists and its just kind of gone from there really.

How long have you been doing what you do?:

Its been just longer than a year since I started the Rub A Dub Dub Blog, and already its grown so much. I honestly didn't expect it to get as well known as it is currently and I like to think people respect it for what it is and pick up the odd gem now and then.

What are you currently working on?:

Currently I am working on a few projects. One I can announce is a new Free EP series that we are launching along with Jenai from Ego Thieves based in London UK. That should be dropping soon, and I think it will surprise a lot of people not just in the quality of music but also the vast range of music genre's we are going to cover in the series.

What is next?:

After that I have a few big plans that are probably too fresh to announce just yet but stay locked!

OB-one was kind enough to answer a few questions. About what HavocNdeeD is. And what they do.

How long have you each been in the game?:

-I (OB-one) have been DJ'ing for 15 years & producing for about 10 of those years. J.Paul has been DJ'ing for about 5 years but doing music most of his life with playing numerous instruments as well as being in bands for close to 12 years before turning to production.

How long have you been performing together? and do you always play with a live drum set?:

-we have been producing & performing together for just over a year now. we actually have different versions of our live set:

1) a 2x4 DJ setup

2) J.Paul w/1 turntable w/a mixer along w/a synth/midi controller & a full turntable set-up for me

3) J.Paul on a full midi drum set & a full turntable setup along w/a midi controller for me

...our goal with our live set is to be able to someday perform every aspect of our songs along the lines of pendulum

What type of bass music do you like most Dubstep, Glitch-hop, Drum n Bass, etc...:

-although our sets & production are dubstep driven, we don't really favor any particular genre as it is all related & just different bpm's to us. haha, we try not be be genre or bpm snobs

What are you musical influences?:

-we both have very diverse musical backgrounds. our influences range from reggae to punk to industrial to metal to classic hip hop. we don't believe you should ever limit yourself by being closed minded...good music is good music no matter what genre it is

Now here is someone that you should definitely know about. I have been personally playing Jantsen's tracks for some time now and his work just keeps getting better!  Jantsen A.K.A. "Jansten Roberston", a 27 year old producer / Dj currently residing in Boulder, CO. has been Djing for 7 years and producing for 5. Jantsen is affiliated with family moons (www.familymoons.com) and is working on an E.P. with Bassnectar as well as one of his own that you can expect to see out soon. I don't see Jantsen going anywhere but up the ranks of the Bass Music community this kid has got fire.

Welcome Knight Riderz strait out of Canada these two make a perfect example of what a Multi Genre Bass Music producer is. They have everything drums that bang, melodies that romance, and synths that rip your senses into new dimensions. Knight Riderz have a heavy harmonic flavor all their own. With backgrounds in Reggae, Hip Hop, Metal, and Classical music there is literally no confines or rules to their output. I recommend you keep an eye out for theses two. This is my version of "Take a Penny, Leave a Penny". Only with music. Soundcloud did a really interesting thing with there widgets, allowing people to make pools of tracks that are community funded. I put these groups together hopeful to find new music that could be categorized as multi Genre Bass Music. So far it has worked pretty well. Hopefully this will be a good resource/starting point for both DJ and Producer. Since they can both share and find tracks very easily. These are ever growing sources of tracks, most of them free! I would recommend checking on it frequently. Soundcloud has made some new rules in regards to downloads. Some tracks have limits to the amount of times they are downloaded. I also enjoy elements of metal music, guitar distortion, feedback and wild drum sections! The Bristol music scene is another of my influences. Artists such as Roni Size and Massive Attack. Other musical influences include Peaches, The Hacker, Nine Inch Nails, Lemon Jelly, Daft Punk, Adam Freeland, Skull Disco, Amon Tobin, Ltj Bukem, and Photek amongst others.

Multi Genre Ragga Bass-Core by Dr.Colossus

Dr. Colossus. This is someone that I just recently met. He is multi-genre bass dj/producer with a fetish for the Ragga sound! Dr. Colossus started growing his Glitched-Out Bass-Driven Ragga Beast by planting his seed deep in Punk around 2000 and feeding it a steady diet of UK Hip-Hop, Drum and Bass, Nu-School Jungle and Break-Core. I even heard, that for a nominal fee, you can get him to bring the Beast to your home town and show your friends! ;-)

Dr. Colossus was kind enough to share a mix with us, er....half of a mix with us. I guess that the other half is for him to dispose of as he sees fit. He even wrote something about himself which is great because now I don't have to. =)


My name is Dr. Colossus and I'm a Jungle / Hip Hop / Punk / Yardcore / Multi-GenreBass Music dj/producer from London. I started out, a few years back, doing ragga-jungle. But, these days, I play mash-ups and make mash-ups of everything.

This mix, found below, is a recording from the first part of a show I played at a rave called Fuxmas that was set up by NFA at the end of 2007. The rave is called Fuxmas because its always takes place around Christmas. This is one of my favorite parties because it has this really nice family vibe with free food, quizzes and stuff. I cut off the second half because it has some exclusive stuff that I didn't want to put out on the internet. You're going to have to catch me live to catch that stuff.

It was very surreal playing this rave. I was all prepared to travel for miles to get to the rave and then I looked up the location on Google Maps and it turned out it was literally across the road from my house. Because it was around Christmas, I had family staying over at my house which made it a very surreal night. My night went from playing a gig at a squat party, to being a bit wrecked and crossing the road for some dinner with my grandma (she's a cool grandma) , to finally going back to the rave. Although its got some rough edges, and is a bit short, this is probably my favorite mix that I have done.

Wrong Chris. A 24-year-old dj/musician, writer and Graphic Design student from Vancouver BC, Canada whose style of mixing is eclectic. You can expect to hear a mixture of multiple dance music genres riddled with funky grooves and bass. Wrong Chris also writes for a Canadian-based blog, called Lights Over Canada, that spotlights up-and-coming artists from his home country.
